London 'cabbie' caught by the Metropolitan Police, having no insurance and driving license. They also established he was not registered to drive under the Public Carriage Office regulations. His customer, being taken to a local airport, paid his fare to the point when officers pulled the 'cabbie' over, got out and presumably caught another cab. The car was found to have so many defects, as to be issued with an immediate PROHIBITION ORDER.

Local Nottingham Cabbies express concern regarding the recent increase in attacks. A lady driver was recently subjected to a nasty attack in the Sherwood area having just finished her shift. In pulling onto her driveway, her attackers smashed windows in her car in an endeavour to gain access to her takings. The lady driver who had only been working as a PH driver for one week said she would not be deterred by the event. Concern is expressed by the trade over the poor response and support provided by the Police following recent and similar events.

Probably the cheapest vehicle *(for fuel) in use within the PH trade,  AND with an automatic gearbox. Mark Cartledge, Chairman of the ANPH0 purchased a (1)Toyota Prius in July 2002. This vehicle is fitted with a fully AUTOMATIC gearbox and Satellite Navigation. Mark is probably one of the busiest drivers in Nottingham; he drives buses too!  The vehicle has now covered 60,000 miles, and currently providing an average fuel consumption of 56 MILES PER GALLON; .........NOT BAD FOR AN *AUTOMATIC CAR ! ! ! ! !

THIS (1)VEHICLE IS EXEMPT FROM THE LONDON CONGESTION CHARGE!

Mark, a big train enthusiast and happened to 'be in the right place-at the right time'. Following a trade meeting, Mark met up with Geoff. Stathers, of Acorn Direct, Geoff said, 'Go on give it a try' (as salesmen do)! Mark was so impressed, he decided to buy one!

June The trade (PH & Hackney) learn of the intention by the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) to increase Registration charges. This is despite their very poor **service record delivered to date. From the year 2001 the CRB have the temerity to subject the trade to increased cost's in excess of 25%. Of course such increase's, if finally introduced, will apply to the thousands of other individuals who are subject to the same checks. (Including many employee's of Local Authorities, and we know who will end up paying their cost's)! Many PH & Hackney drivers, and not forgetting the many other individuals requiring such checks from the inception of the CRB, were UNABLE to earn their living for substantial periods of time!

June Recent press reports suggests yet more bad news for the trade, and many other users of the Criminal
National Records (CRB).  Following recent press reports, it is believed those requiring the services of the
CRB are to face over a 100% rise in the cost of services provided by the CRB. The service provided to the PH
trade to date has been very poor with many drivers being unable to work, through the inefficiencies of the
CRB.
