VEHICLE & EQUIPMENT SUPPLIERS Vehicles You would like to work in the PH trade but cannot afford to buy a new / second hand car!You have your own car but do not know if this would be acceptable? See Para 4b Employment. PH Driving Your car is too good for use as a PH vehicle; can you hire one? Vehicles used within the PH trade fall into two categories, rented and owned. Some PH companies have vehicles which you may be able to hire, providing you drive for them. These vehicles are frequently purchased by drivers. It is the policy of this association not to recommend any particular base. For details of our members, please see our 'Call-A-Cab' page. If you do not have your own (1)vehicle, one may be available to rent from one of a number of companies who specialise in this market. (Vehicles are often in high demand) For those of you not familiar with PH work, any vehicle used must be LICENSED by a Local Authority; when licensed, a 'PLATE' is secured to the rear, and in some cases the front of the vehicle. For Local Authority licensing contacts >>>>>> Taxi Licensing or Details of local 'PLATES' an 'BADGES'
(1) PLATED VEHICLES FOR RENT --- CONTACTS (Nottingham only)
Typically, vehicles for rent may cost from £80-00 to around £120-00 per week dependant upon the model, age, your personal circumstances and supplier. (Includes servicing; Excludes fuel and perhaps call out, dependant upon company and cost) INSURANCE is not included within these figures, but the company may be able to arrange this as a part of the package.
(2) UNPLATED VEHICLES FOR DIRECT PURCHASE / LEASE HIRE Should you decide to purchase a vehicle for use, you may well find contact with one of the following useful. There are a number of very important and useful benefits in purchasing/leasing/hiring subject to personal circumstances, and of course, your own *credit status. (Although some companies may be able to assist some drivers with such *issues). We understand, you are much more likely to obtain a better deal with one of the following, than to approach a local garage, car retailer; this is due to the experience many of the following have in addressing the needs of the PH trade. (Of course, there are always exceptions)!
Typically, you may be able to purchase/lease/hire a vehicle from around (3)£37-00 per week upwards. Depending upon the supplier (Check carefully) many benefits come with such deals. (3) At May 2003 Check for:
Do you require financial assistance with the purchase? Check out >>> FINANCE
IMPORTANT NOTE: PRIOR to buying any vehicle, CHECK that it is acceptable to YOUR licensing authority AND any other authority you may transfer to at some future time!
ALWAYS, CHECK CAREFULLY what you are getting for your money. Often you may obtain a higher spec. motor for around the same or similar price as an alternative one. Look out in the trade press for Model Changes, often a good time to buy................ DO NOT HURRY YOUR DECISION! ------- DO NOT BE PRESSED INTO BUYING! Due to the very nature of their business, many, if not all the (2)above companies have a selection of SECOND HAND vehicles, often with useful warrantees.
DON'T FORGET, WHEN YOU HAVE BOUGHT YOUR NEW BRIGHT GLEAMING MACHINE, YOU WILL HAVE TO GET THIS LICENSED (PLATED). YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE THE VEHICLE FOR WORK IMMEDIATELY. >>>> This takes up time, and cost's money!
